Values
True Puritans lived by certain rules that governed their lives:
These values all came from traditions from their ancestors overtime. Their morals intertwine with their religious beliefs and did not believe in extravagant lifestyles. All they needed is a place to live, food on the table, and the worship of God. If one did not follow the ways of a proper Puritan lifestyle then punishment would be inflicted.
- Puritans were not allowed to drink, were hardworking, and very responsible. The English were corrupt in their way of life and the Puritans did not want to follow that example.
- They did not like Catholicism and believed that the relationship in Catholics between God and man was undetermined.
- They believed that God chooses who will go to heaven or hell and that nobody can pay the church money or do work for it, God has the last word.
- The saints are the only ones that had the authority to choose, hire, and fire its ministers.
- Puritans believed that worship is just that, worship. It is not artistic with jewels and stained glass windows, like the Catholics. It is simple and plain.
- The Puritans had a strong belief that every child should attend a school and that education was necessary.
- No tolerance rule. If something is done wrong, there will be no mercy or forgiveness.
