Traditions & Everyday Culture
Religion and education was the major role in all Puritan lives. Attending church and worshipping God was mandatory for every Puritan and taken very seriously. Puritans attended church at least two times a week and on occasion, government meetings were even held in the church. Missing a day of church or committing a wrong-doing would result in severe punishments such as public whippings, hangings, and being placed in a stockade, a block of wood with cut-outs for the head, hands, and occasionally feet to be placed in.
These ideas were all brought over on the Mayflower to the New World and are still put into play in contemporary society.

Worship
Worship was ultimately what a Puritan's life revolved around. It was mandatory to go to church and reach out to God. Reading the Bible and living proper Puritan lives were important and if you did not follow these rules then you were punished. Puritans always had something to do because they believed that "idle hands were the devils playground."
